E.1027 – EILEEN GRAY AND THE HOUSE BY THE SEA

Cinema documentary by Beatrice Minger & Christoph Schaub

CONTENT Cinema documentary by Beatrice Minger / Co-directed by Christoph Schaub A cinematic journey into the mind of Eileen Gray.
The Irish designer builds a retreat on the Côte d’Azur in 1929, together with the journalist Jean Badovici.
Her first house is a quiet but avant-garde masterpiece.
She christened it E.1027 – a cryptic marriage of their two initials.
When Le Corbusier became aware of the house, he was overwhelmed and became obsessive.
He painted colorful murals in the nude on the white walls and published photos of them.
Gray described these paintings as vandalism and demanded that he paint the walls back.
He ignored their wishes and instead built his famous Cabanon directly behind E.1027, thereby defining the narrative of the site to this day.
A story about the power of female expression and the reaction of an offended man.
